Working to Restore, Conserve and Protect our Quinte Environment

Since 1987, first as the Public Advisory Committee of the Bay of Quinte Remedial Action Plan, and then as Quinte Watershed Cleanup Inc., QWC has worked to provide the Quinte region with current, accurate information on environmental issues, and to take action to restore, conserve and protect our environment.

QWC Mission

QWC in Action

Bay of Quinte Remedial Action:

As the Public Advisory Committee of the Bay of Quinte Remedial Action Plan, QWC plays a watchdog role in the joint federal, provincial and municipal clean up process for the Bay of Quinte and its watershed.

Norampac Paper Mill Toxics:

In cooperation with the Ontario Nature Federation and the Sierra Legal Defence Fund, QWC was successful in forcing Norampac (formerly known as Domtar, co-owned by Cascade) to stop applying Dioxin-contaminated paper mill waste as a dust suppressant on gravel roads throughout Ontario. QWC has now turned its attention to the investigation of air emissions produced by the incineration of mill waste at Norampac’s Quinte West facility.

Zwicks Park and Meyer’s Pier Pollution:

QWC continues to focus public awareness on the highly toxic ground water pollution problem in Belleville’s Zwicks Park and Foster Ward/Meyer’s Pier Park areas.

Cosmetic Pesticide Reduction:

The Pesticide Reduction Committee of QWC works to encourage the reduction and possible elimination of cosmetic pesticides on lawns in the Quinte area.

Deloro Mine Site Pollution:

QWC is a member of the Public Advisory Committee dealing with the Deloro Mine Site, major polluter of the entire Moira River watershed.

Annual Quinte TrashBash:

Each spring, the QWC coordinates a one-day litter cleanup throughout the Quinte West and Belleville areas.

New! QWC Shoreline Naturalization Rebate

Attention Belleville and Quinte West residents: Do you live on the north shore of the Bay of Quinte? You may qualify for up to $100 to plant native species on your shoreline!

Having a naturalized shoreline can help reduce erosion, attract songbirds and keep the Bay healthier. Quinte watershed Cleanup Inc. has launched a program to help you bring your shoreline back to its natural state. QWC is offering rebates for residents of the north shore of the Bay of Quinte (Quinte West and Belleville) who purchase and plant native species along their shoreline. We are even running a contest for most improved naturalized area!!

You can purchase plants wherever you like (and there are some great deals out there!!) and then complete and return the rebate form. It's that simple to get up to $100 back!
